EDITO

The invitation to take a stroll and engage in poetic drifting has been extended to each and everyone of you by the EIM festival over the past eight years. It is now more than ever at the heart of our rendezvous. Taking alternate paths, loafing around without a thought for efficiency, shedding a new look on one’s environment, changing one’s angle of vision… What better way to let our imagination open up the paths to free artistic perambulation. Seventy artists from Québec, Switzerland, New-Zealand, the United-States, and France invite you to stretch out time.

From the Escales by day, on the Quays of the Old Port of Montréal, with the Musical Siestas, a static acoustic guided tour, a sculpture designed to experiment the use of power, or an ephemeral tête-à-tête in dance…

To the Escales by night (at the Darling Foundry), with Voyage de l’intranquillité, beginning with Valody and its performance drawn from The Book of Disquiet, by author Pessoa, and ending with a meeting of Socalled and David Krakauer for Lies My Gramma Told Me : World Beat Mash Up. Other trysts will mark the course of this voyage. And then, on September 8, between The Choreographers with an irreverent OH Canada! and Olivier Dubois (a first in Canada) with a split between Swan Lake and pole-dancing, the Escales by night 2, cohosted with Studio 303, will blend dance, words, music, and visual arts…

Lastly, you can follow us this year to the Latin Quarter for two improbable adventures: Est-ce que le monde sait qu’il me parle?, presented in a container, and Raindance, a perambulation that prompts water to make a musical receptical out of your umbrella.

Spinning once again the aquatic metaphore, using the waterline like Ariadne’s clew inviting to experience a different rapport with art–both interdisciplinary and generous, intimate and collective–and with places, the EIM festival offers you an opportunity to share with the artists these spaces of sensitivity, the time of an escapade out of the box, certainly with a change of scenery, miles away from going back to school or back to work!

Have a great festival!
