Lo Griyo - Music
by Lo Griyo (Ile de la Réunion) – Premiere in Canada

With their West African trance music, allow yourself to be bewitched by the experimental electro-acoustic melodies of this trio from la Réunion, a French island situated to the east of Madagascar. Find yourself entranced by their cultural roots, which they will celebrate for the first time in Canada in a dazzling performance.

Lo Griyo, “le griot” in Creole: a west-african tradition which people from La Réunion take heritage from with artists such as Gramoun Baba, Lo Rwa kaf, Danyel Waro or Alain Peters. Lo Griyo offers a crossing between tradition and modernity, switching between instruments such as the kora and the sanza, as well as samplers, synthetic basses, and delays. They represent this new generation from La Réunion who perpetuates a musical anchorage by creating at the same time a very personal and creative universe.

With Sami Pageaux (voice, kora, sanza, percussions), Luc Joly (saxophone, flute, melodica, clarinet) and Brice Nauroy (analog synthesisers)
