Poisson Jurrassic – Sculpture
By Glen LeMesurier (Montreal) - creation
A majestic jurassic fish in metal, measuring 20 feet long and 5 feet high, will be progressively created in three days by sculptor Glen LeMesurier on the edge of the basin. Meet his most favourite materials of creation: recycled objects, rubbish, steel, and iron
For this exceptional sculptor from the Gaspé, the transformation of the recycled object into a work of art is the source of more ecological and historical preoccupations: “I believe that by using recycled materials in unexpected ways the survival of these materials becomes heroic […] and becomes part of a mythological process.”
The artist’s studio on Van Horne Street located along his famous “Parc du Crépuscule” will temporarily be moved to The Escales Improbables 2009 site. Inspired by machinery, the artist usually places his creations in this public Mile-End space, a gesture he considers to be a “form of culture in action.” During the 2009 EIM, you are invited to discover each day’s evolution of the aquatic animal Glen will create.
“Glen LeMesurier est un poète du macadam, qui sème de la beauté sur mon coin du Mile-End. Sans réclamer de salaire, si ce n’est que le bonheur des passants.” Odile Tremblay, Le Devoir, August 16 2007
