Le Bal Moderne – Danse
by La 2e Porte à Gauche (Montreal)

Do you like to dance? You are invited to attend the Bal Moderne presented in Montreal by La 2e Porte à Gauche: in a fun and friendly atmosphere, two three-minute dances are taught to the public. Far from being a conventional dance class, Le Bal Moderne invites you to amuse yourself, help one another and make nice acquaintances. Leave the shyness at home!

A first Bal Moderne will be hosted by Dominique Porte, guest choreographer for The Escales Improbables, and if you didn’t like that, or were too scared to join in the first round, you can participate in a new dance later on in the evening at the second Bal Moderne, hosted by La 2e Porte à Gauche. Both balls have their own song, chosen by their respective choreographers.

«They do things with a casual laissez-faire stance, embracing the now, seizing the day and being as vital as possible. It's a perspective that reflects the democratic experimentation and outlook of many post-modern choreographers of a couple of generations ago and the avant-gardists before them. Like their predecessors, the 2e Porte group are finding "ways in" for the participants and allowing for the delineations of the art forms to blur in these newfound "happenings."» Philip Szporer, The Hour, February 26 2009

Guest choreographer: Dominique Porte
La 2e Porte à Gauche: Amélie Bédard Gagnon, Marie Béland, Johanna Bienaise, Katya Montaignac and Frédéric Gravel.
Original concept created by Michel Reilhac, in Belgium - La 2e Porte à Gauche has been presenting Le Bal Moderne in Quebec since 2004.
