Panorama commenté - In situ theatre
by Grand Magasin (France) - Premiere in Canada

Observation publique d'un paysage

Formidable observers of the world around them, Grand Magasin proposes an atypical excursion of the panorama of the Old Port from a tent, which offers a sweeping view outside and from which you will discover outdoors events, whether they are real or fictional.

At the same time, exterior events occurring in the landscape are meticulously transcribed on a grid, coming to life with every change to the scenery, giving birth to a series of ephemeral constellations. The vagaries of the landscape, the seemingly chaotic world – both seem subject to a secret geometry which builds up as the commentary on the landscape completes itself. A shifted style, comical pursuits, puns and kooky situations are the ingredients of this in situ creation by the unclassifiable Grand Magasin Company, who could easily find spiritual affiliation to the works of Queneau, Tati, and other celebrated Dadaists.

« Il n’est pas sûr que vous ressortiez indemne du Grand Magasin. Pascale Murtin, François Hiffler et Bettina Atala sont des individus dangereux qui menacent l’équilibre psychique des spectateurs venus à leur rencontre. Le risque de contagion est aigu et les expériences menées en direct au cours des représentations peuvent être lourdes de conséquences. » Marseille l’Hebdo, Week of October 6 to 12, 2004
