CRYING IN PUBLIC
Tedi Tafel

We are pleased to announce Crying in Public by choreographer Tedi Tafel. This new series of 9 site-specific dances is being presented September 10th through 15th. The works take place at various moments of each day - early morning, afternoon, dusk or night - in 3 different Montreal neighborhoods - Outremont, Petite Patrie and Parc-Extension. All dances are performed in a different site including a church basement, a park and an empty lot. Your ‘ticket’ to all performances of this event is a map and a schedule. You can then decide how you wish to engage with the work.

You are invited to create your own way of engaging with the work, coming to some of it or to all of it. The multiplicity of dances is like facets of a diamond, each one capturing a part of the intended meaning.

“The ‘crying’ in the title is for the absence of any sense of the sacred in our communal lives and my own longing for the deeper mysteries of our human experience to be played out in the public sphere. My wish with each dance of this series is to show how everywhere is infused with hidden richness, that we are part of something larger and that this something is embedded in our everyday lives.”
-Tedi Tafel
